Marks Sees Awesome Night Cut Short at Kentucky
Sparta, KY (07-19-2008) – Justin Marks qualified ninth for Friday night’s 225-mile race at Kentucky Speedway. He ranks the track as one of his favorite ovals and it looked like the track might return the affection this weekend. For more than 100 of the race’s 150 laps, Marks had the Crocs Tundra running in the top-five and as high in the running order as second. Without a doubt Germain Racing’s no. 9 Tundra team was having it’s best showing of the season. The performance was cut short by 32 laps.

“Obviously, 31st isn’t the finish we wanted out of the Construct Corps Tundra at Kentucky. We had a truck that could have won the race or finished solidly in the top-five,” said Marks. “This weekend as a whole was good for the no. 9 team because it went very smooth and everyone did a good job. Our practices went well, we never made a mock-qualifying run but we had a good truck in qualifying. Our pit stops were good. It was an all around good effort by the Construct Corps team. It is unfortunate that we were cut short of getting the finish that we’d worked so hard for, but everyone on this team can be proud of the job they did this weekend.”
After starting ninth and working into fifth place by lap ten, Marks and the Construct Corps pit crew kept the no. 9 Tundra in the top-four positions for more than 80 laps. Marks had just slid out of the top-five as he and his crew were hoping for a caution.
“The Construct Corps Tundra was running great. Justin was running a smart race. We had a problem happen with the right-side romeo glass late in the race and we needed a caution to come to pit road to fix it. We got it at lap 115. Unfortunately, we became a victim on the restart following that same caution we had needed,” said Jason Overstreet, crew chief for Marks and Germain Racing’s no. 9 Construct Corps Tundra.
The next race for the team is O’Reilly Raceway Park. There the Crocs Tundra will take on the tricky, flat short-track in front of the always enthusiastic Indianapolis crowd. Watch the action live on SPEED, Friday night.
